- How the Cat 5-G race played out...
The start of the 5G race was pretty tame, which was fine by me. I was able to stay with the group over the first two hills including Juniper Swamp, but we did shed a handful of riders there. From there our group of about 25 stayed together and worked pretty well, but it wasn't ridiculously fast. Nobody seemed to want to go for it, so we all just moved along. From that point on we dropped a few riders on each of the hills, especially Joe Bean and Carney Cassidy. Carney Cassidy broke us into two groups of about 7 and myself and one other rider rotated on the front to bring it all back (nobody else wanted it bad enough I guess!). So from there we were about 14 until the dirt of Mountain Rd where we lost a couple more. Then it all broke apart on Meetinghouse Rd. One guy went off the front like a rocket never to be seen again (he won by 2mins). There was no other real break but I think people just started bonking pretty hard. By the end of Meetinghouse I was with two others. We stayed together until Stage Rd where one guy took off. The two of us left eventually caught him with about 2km to go. We finished with a 3-way sprint which I won after coming around from the 3rd position.
